The InternetIf you’ve just got yourself a new computer, or perhaps upgraded from an older machine that’s seen better days, then getting hooked up to the internet is one of the key chores to sort out. These days, having an internet connection is pretty much essential, especially if you want to enjoy everything the online world has to offer as well as enlisting the help of emails, social networking and all the rest of it.

Most people who want an internet connection at home will go down the route of a broadband account, simply because this is much faster and way more efficient than the old style ‘dial up’ access that used to be the order of the day. Now though, broadband uses high-speed fibre connectivity to give a much more efficient service and it’s highly reliable too.

However, in order to do this you’ll need to get yourself a broadband account from an internet service provider. There are plenty of these companies out there and you’ll need to do a bit of comparison to find the right deal or offer for your needs. Of course if you don’t already have internet then you can do this in an internet outlet such as a library, café or store.

You may also have bought yourself a laptop computer though, which means that you potentially have mobile internet at your disposal too. Mobile broadband is great because it allows you to stay connected to the internet pretty much wherever you go by tapping into the mobile phone network.

You’ll need to get yourself a small USB device, which plugs into your laptop and gets you connected to the internet. There are loads of these around and the deals are very competitive. You’ll need to watch out for a few things though, such as checking what sort of coverage you can expect. Also, there are data limitations with mobile broadband, because it’s not as fast and efficient as home-based services. So, if you plan to download endless large files such as movies, then a home broadband deal might be the better bet.

If you’ve got family, friends or even work colleagues that want to tap into mobile broadband then it’s also worth exploring the MiFi devices that are out there. These enable you to hook up to five users to one mobile broadband account, so it’s great if you’ve got people with you while you’re travelling who want to browse the web at the same time.

Thanks to stiff competition in the marketplace there are often big discounts for people who want to combine some or all of these services, along with cable options that might also bundle in landline and TV packages too.
